Lindsay Durgan, LMFT - Online Counseling and Psychotherapy in San Francisco, CaliforniaWe all face challenges and change in our relationships and lives. Regardless of age or gender, it’s part of what makes us human.

Unfortunately, friends and family aren’t always able to help. And for a great many of us, making the time to listen to our inner selves in order to figure out what we truly want can seem a more daunting proposition than continuing to struggle with whatever issue we’re facing.

So you keep muddling along …

But the pain doesn’t go away. In fact, it gets worse. And no matter what you do to alleviate it, nothing seems to help … at least not for long.

If you’re at the point where you’re considering professional counseling and psychotherapy because you feel as if you’ve tried just about everything else you can think of to overcome your anxiety and anguish and create the positive, lasting change you seek … I get it.

And I’m here to tell you that you’re not alone!

Why Counseling & Psychotherapy?

If you’re hesitant about seeking counseling or psychotherapy, there’s really no reason not to get professional help …

If you need financial help, you hire a financial planner. If you have a medical issue, you consult a physician. Well, if you’re struggling with emotional or behavioral health issues, then it’s time to find a professional counselor or psychotherapist!

Yes, we all face challenges and stressors in life. But what most of us don’t realize is that the problems we struggle with are often caused, or exacerbated, by erroneous beliefs we’ve acquired in our relationships with others and the world around us.

This is precisely why counseling and psychotherapy can be so vital to your healing and growth.

Just as any wounding or maladaptive behaviors are formed in the context of our relationships, healing and growth also need to take place in the context of our relationships.

And this is what counseling and psychotherapy are all about …

The Healing Power of Our Relationships

The effectiveness of therapy is all about the healing relationship you and I create together.

Accordingly, my role as a therapist is to develop a healing connection with you, so you can recognize and transform old patterns and address the thoughts, feelings and behaviors you want to change, reconnect with your Self, and then move forward to connect more fully with others.

In other words, we’re not going to spend a lot of time talking about “what” you’re doing “wrong.” Instead, we’ll look at “why” you’re doing what you’re doing, in order to make sure your “why” is in alignment with reality and whatever it is you’re trying to achieve, whether that’s to:

  • Cope with, and overcome, anxiety and stress;
  • Transform any patterns of thinking and behaving that are keeping you stuck;
  • Move past traumatic experiences;
  • Free yourself from depression, guilt, or shame;
  • Improve your relationships with your child, partner, other family members, or friends;
  • Successfully navigating major life transitions;
  • Improve your overall well-being; or
  • Discover what matters most, and create a more authentic, joyous life.

I’m also not one of those therapists who is just going to sit and listen to your problems …

Yes, I’ll listen non-judgmentally, attentively, and intentionally to everything you have to say. But I’m also interactive and I’ll provide guidance and direction.

When all is said and done, our relationships and connections with others and with ourselves are what give life meaning and make us happiest.

This is why I’ve spent the better part of the past decade helping teens, adolescents, and adults figure out who they really are, reconnect with those they love, and discover their sense of purpose, meaning, fulfillment, and joy.

I feel privileged and blessed to do this work … to have developed open, trusting, meaningful relationships with those who matters most … and to have created a life I truly love. And I look forward to helping you do the same!

Please don’t hesitate to contact me, today at 415-990-9976 or lindsay@lindsaydurgan.com to learn more about the services I offer, ask any questions you have, and find out whether or not we’d be a good fit for working together. I look forward to connecting with you and helping in any way I can.

What Clients and Colleagues Have to Say

“As a child and adolescent psychiatrist, I have been fortunate to collaborate with Lindsay Durgan in the treatment of adolescents with mental health issues. She is a thoughtful and compassionate therapist who is extremely dedicated to the well-being of her clients.”

– Michelle Guchereau
Child Psychiatrist, San Francisco, CA

“If you are wondering if Lindsay would be a great counselor or therapist, I want you to know that she is. I was a [high school] senior when I was seeing her, dealing with the stresses of academics, college, home life, and issues with being gay. It was so easy to open up to her and actually talk. I believe if it wasn’t for Lindsay, I do not know where I would be today. I just want to thank her so much for all that she has done.”

– High school senior
San Francisco, CA

“Lindsay has had a life-changing positive impact on our family. She was able to reach each of our children and gain their trust, despite their being such very different personalities and struggling with very different issues. We saw huge positive development in their confidence and enjoyment of life. They actually looked forward to each session. She also did a great job of liaising with us as parents … It has been a tremendous success and we are deeply grateful.”

– Mother of two students
San Francisco, CA

“Lindsay has provided the care and guidance I needed to resolve deeply rooted depression that was preventing me from living a happy and enjoyable life … it is now a joy to wake up every morning looking forward to the challenges of the day with a smile instead of a fearful (anxious, ambivalent, angry) frown on my face. Her awareness, caring and thoughtful guidance through this part of my life’s journey has quite frankly saved me.”
